Galaxy kick off 2026 MLS season Feb. 22 hosting New York City FC

The Galaxy will open the 2026 Major League Soccer season at Dignity Health Sports Park against New York City FC.

MLS on Thursday announced the complete 2026 schedule, the last before the calendar switch for the 2027 season.

At the end of 2026, MLS will run a shortened season from February to May in 2027, followed by a regular season from “mid-to-late July to late May.”

The two El Trafico games against LAFC will take place July 17 at Dignity Health Sports Park and Oct. 25 at BMO Stadium. The July 17 game is one day after MLS returns from its FIFA World Cup break.

Major League Soccer will take a six-week break due to the World Cup, with no games from May 25 to July 16.

With the break, that means Decision Day, the final day of the regular season, will moved back to Nov. 7, which would push MLS Cup to December. The league said postseason dates will be announced at a later time. Due to the late start for the playoffs, MLS will avoid having to break in November for the international break.

By contrast, the Decision Day for the 2025 season was Oct. 18.

The Galaxy will again face six Eastern Conference teams. Along with NYCFC, the Galaxy will also host Charlotte (Feb. 28) and New England (Sept. 5). The Galaxy will visit Columbus Crew (April 22), Atlanta United (May 9) and CF Montreal (Aug. 22).

The Galaxy will play 15 games before the league’s break for the World Cup and 19 afterward. Teams will again play a 34-game regular season (17 road and 17 home).

The Galaxy have set a pair of dates to honor a couple of club legends. On April 4, the club will honor Landon Donovan ahead of the game against Minnesota United. Three weeks later, the club will unveil the Cobi Jones statue April 26 before a game against Real Salt Lake.

The two games against San Diego FC are set for Aug. 29 at Snapdragon Stadium and Oct. 17 at Dignity Health Sports Park.

The Galaxy’s first competition will come in the opening round of the CONCACAF Champions Cup in February. The draw will take place Dec. 9.

Just in league play, the Galaxy’s busiest months are April, May, August, September and October, with five games in each of the months.
