Hundreds of frozen turkeys intended for a Thanksgiving giveaway were stolen in Lake Elsinore.
The turkeys were in a box truck, reported stolen from the 31000 block of Auto Center Drive just before 8 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 22, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
Deputies had not been able to find the truck yet.
Officials from the U.R. Important Foundation told CBSLA that the truck had over 500 frozen turkeys inside. Foundation members had been sorting food for a Thanksgiving giveaway when the truck was stolen, CBSLA reported.
The U.R. Important Foundation is a Lake Elsinore-based nonprofit that provides food to the community. The Thanksgiving turkey giveaway is a yearly staple, according to the foundation’s website.
An anonymous donor is lending a hand, enabling the foundation to hopefully feed around 200 people in need this Thanksgiving after all, the foundation told CBSLA.
